Hey fam, you gotta check out Young Conservation Area in Jefferson County, Missouri. This spot is a total vibe, and it’s huge. It covers 970 acres, which is like 3.9 square kilometers of pure nature energy. The area used to be called Hilda Young Conservation Area, but now it’s just Young. It’s nestle
d in the north central part of the county, about 3 miles west of County Highway W along Highway FF, right between LaBarque Creek and John McKeever Road. This place was acquired by the Missouri Department of Conservation back in 1986 through a donation and purchase, so it’s got some real history in its roots. Right now, around 93 percent of the land is forested, featuring iconic oak, maple, and hickory trees alongside other native species. The wildlife here is absolutely thriving, with abundant white-tailed deer, wild turkeys, and squirrels roaming the area. You’ll find diverse habitats ranging from LaBarque Creek to glades, tree plantations, and open fields. Speaking of plantations, there’s a special 3.5-acre Austrian pine grove and another 3.5-acre black walnut grove that are top spots for a chill walk. If you’re into outdoor activities, the 2.5-mile Taconic Loop Trail winds along LaBarque Creek and is a must-see for scenic views. There are also two man-made fishing ponds stocked with bass and bluegill, perfect for a peaceful afternoon. Hunting is permitted during season, including bow hunting, but single-projectile firearms are not allowed. The area is open daily from 4:00 a.m. t
