To commemorate the presence in Hinckley of elements of the United States 82nd Airborne Division in 1944. The troops were here to prepare for D-Day, June 6th 1944 and Operation Market Garden, 17th September 1944. The troops were billeted in buildings across the town including the old Palladium cinema
