Sharow Cross. This cross which belongs to the National Trust was set up in the middle ages to mark the limit of "Sanctuary," a privilege which fugitives enjoyed who came within a mile of St. Wilfrid's Monastery. In the Thirteenth Century there were eight of these crosses around Ripon but only this o
ne now remains. The public are asked to protect so interesting a relic from damage or injury.
