This plaque records the site of Sutton colliery opened 1874 by the Skegby Colliery Lime & Brick Co to replace Skegby colliery situated three quarters of a mile to the west. Originally named Brierley colliery after Staffordshire miners brought from there to sink the shafts. Since 1947 some 15 million
