San Pasqual Battlefield State Historic Park commemorates the Battle of San Pasqual of December 6, 1846, the bloodiest engagement in California during the Mexican–American War, fought between United States troops led by General Stephen Kearny and Californio forces commanded by General Andres Pico. Th
e 50-acre park, created through the efforts of the Native Sons of the Golden West, is now a California State Park and California Historical Landmark located on Highway 78 south of Escondido.
