Fu eretto al tempo di [[w:Filippo II di Spagna|Filippo II]] (1527-1598) e realizzato dall'architetto favorito del sovrano, Juan de Herrera, lo stesso che realizzò il monastero El Escorial e il Palazzo reale di [[Aranjuez]]. Fu restaurato nel 1648 dall'architetto José de Villarreal. Per l'occasione f
u ornato con un arco trionfale andato poi perduto. È un ponte in granito a 9 archi e dall'aspetto massiccio.
