52 Regent Street Chippendale On this site once stood the Wesley Church, a beacon for the Methodist mission in Chippendale and South Sydney from 1847-1918. Industrial growth and the lure of the suburbs in the early 20th century resulted in a dwindling congregation. With the mission called elsewhere,
the church was sold in 1918; the final Methodist service was held on 25 August 1918. The Sandstone Victorian Gothic church building was acquired by the Liberal Catholic Church and dedicated to St Alba
