Paul Hogarth, RA, artist and writer, was born in this house in 1917. He was the son of a Westmorland hill farmer at Lowgill. He trained at Manchester and at St. Martin's School of Art in London and was elected to the Royal Academy in 1974. He travelled worldwide exhibiting in many countries. As a bo
