Odessas underground is perforated with one of the biggest catacomb systems of the world. More than 2000 km underground tunnels in several layers cover all the area below and around the city. In former times it saved as a quarry, so the limestone taken from the catacombs was used to build up the hist
orical buildings on the surface. Later it became a hideout for dubious activities and for partisans in second worldwar. The museum can only be visited with guided tours.
