Mount Zion Church served Georgetown's once large African-American community which once offered free burials for Washington's African-American population. It was very popular since church was legally the only place that large groups of African-Americans were allowed to congregate. The church, at 1334
29th St NW, remains in operation with only a handful of families still living in the area; most of the congregation commutes from other areas.
