It is located on the Royal Galleries by the beach. The king was commemorated here as a benefactor of Ostend and the Belgia

n Congo. The inauguration was on 19 July 1931. Partly due to Leopold II's colonial regime, the monument is the subject of ongoing controversy and has been vandalised several times.
