The station is part of the LRT Kelana Jaya Line. The station was op

ened on 1 June 1999, as part of the line's second, which included the addition of 12 stations to the line (not including Sri Rampai), and an underground line that the Kampung Baru station is connected to. The Kampung Baru station is currently one of only five underground stations on the Kelana Jaya Line.
