Admiral Sir John Borlase Warren 1753-1822 born at Stapleford 2nd September 1753. Warren's fleet inflicted a crushing and decisive defeat on Napolean's navy, scattering the enemy squadron consisting of a ship of the line eight frigates and a schooner, Sir John was thanked by both Houses of Parliament

for this important victory and was promoted to admiral. Admiral Warren died at Greenwich on 27th February 1822
