Singapore, Malaysia
The Hotel New World Memorial stands as a solemn tribute to one of Singapore's most devastating civil disasters. On 15 March 1986, the six-story Hotel New World, located at the junction of Serangoon Road and Owen Road in the Rochor district, suddenly collapsed without warning. The catastrophic event
buried 50 people beneath tons of concrete and debris, resulting in the tragic loss of 33 lives. Rescue operations managed to save 17 individuals who had been trapped under the rubble. This memorial serves as a poignant reminder of the fragility of life and the resilience of the human spirit in the face of such tragedy.
