Henry Jenkyns and Frank Green black plaque

St Williams College. A unique survival of a non-monastic religious building, the college is named after Archbishop William Fitzherbert who was canonised in 1227. The college was founded in 1461 as a residence for priests serving chantry altars in the Minster. Sold after the reformation it was owned

by Sir Henry Jenkyns in 1642 and housed the printing presses of King Charles I during the Civil War. Restored by Frank Green in the 1900s, the Dean and Chapter of York became Trustees in 1972.
