George Jr. and Sarah Morgan House

The George Jr. and Sarah Morgan House, commonly called the Olde Stone House, stands at 208 Egg Harbor Road in Washington Township, Gloucester County, New Jersey. This two-story vernacular Georgian style residence, constructed circa 1765, was added to the National Register of Historic Places on April

8, 2019, primarily for its architectural significance. The house's most striking feature is its coursed ashlar façade, built using local ironstone, a material that gives the structure a distinctive, rugged appearance. Historical attribution has shifted over time: earlier thought to have been erected by George Morgan Sr. around 1730, more recent research, as documented in the nomination form, indicates that it was actually built by his son, George Morgan Jr., sometime between circa 1760 and 1775, with circa 1765 being the date noted by the nomination. The property's journey to preservation began in September 1980, when Washington Township acquired the house and 6.2 acres (2.5 hectares) from the FPA corporation. Tragically, a fire in December of that same year caused serious damage to the structure. The Washington Township Historical Society undertook the painstaking restoration, completing the work by 1986. Today, the house operates as a historic house museum under the stewardship of the Washington Township Historic Preservation Commission. Furthermore, the site has expanded into the Olde Stone House Historic Village, with four additional historic buildings relocated from elsewhere
