Il Northrop F-5 è un aereo da caccia leggero monoposto, bimotore a getto e monoplano ad ala bassa, sviluppato dall'azienda aeronautica statunitense Northrop Corporation nei tardi anni cinquanta. La prima versione di serie, l'F-5A, entrata in servizio negli anni sessanta venne designata 'Freedom Figh

ter' (letteralmente combattente della libertà in inglese), mentre la sua versione migliorata F-5E venne ribattezzata 'Tiger II'. Negli anni ottanta venne sviluppata un'ulteriore versione dell'F-5, l'F-5G o F-20 Tigershark, che tuttavia non trovando acquirenti rimase allo stadio di prototipo.
