The Stearns Collection of Musical Instruments, held by the University of Michigan's School of Music, Theatre, and Dance in Ann Arbor, comprises nearly 3,000 historical and contemporary instruments from around the world, founded on a gift by pharmaceutical businessman Frederick Stearns in 1898. Among
its world-renowned holdings are Robert Moog's first commercially produced synthesizer (1964), the RCA theremin heard on the Green Hornet radio broadcasts (1936–1952), and the trumpet collection of Armando Ghitalla.
