The Chicken Roundabout. In the 1950's, local people remember seeing chickens pecking in the verges around the old Ditchingham Maltings. It's thought they had strayed from an allotment or garden nearby. After the closure of the railway station, and the construction of the A143 Bungay bypass in 1983,

they made their home on the island at the crossroads, which became known as the 'Chicken Roundabout'. Times were hard for them, especially in winter. So, in 1991, Bungay resident Gordon Knowles decide
