Cheylesmore Manor. Dating from the 13th century much altered and rebuilt in the 14th, 15th and 16th centuries. The remains of the manor and gatehouse were extensively restored 1965-1968 and a new wing added to provide offices for the city registrar. Built for the earls of Chester it passed to Queen
Isabella, wife of Edward II, and later in 1338 to her grandson Edward the black prince. Both of whom were instrumental in Coventry's early municipal history.
