The Red Lion Inn. Originally a merchant's house, the building dates back to circa 1570-16-40. In 1746 it was purchased by Isobel Drysdale, Vintner. By the mid 1700's, there were eleven alehouses and several breweries serving the 1,695 strong Culross population. In 1885, only two alehouses remained.

In 1907, The Red Lion Inn became part of a chain of Gothenburg Pubs, a temperance movement found in eastern Scotland mining communities. By 2011, The Red Lion Inn was the sole alehouse serving the 395
