Dormitory - The canons slept in the Dorter (dormitory) , a long room with beds arranged each side. Latrines (lavatories) with drains flushed by water were sited at the south end of this building. The Abbey of St. Mary was founded for Augustinian canons in around 1124 and closed by Henry VIII in 1538

. Although by 1600 most of the building had been dismantled some parts survive today both above and below ground. The name 'Abbey Fields' reminds us of the Abbey that once stood here.
