Franklin County, 1795. Taken from portions of Woodford, Mercer and Shelby counties. Ky. had become a state 3 years earlier, with Frankfort as capital, 1792. First meeting of the legislature's second session met here, 1793. Frankfort made county seat, 1795. Named for Benjamin Franklin, one of the lea
ders for independence and creation of United States.
