Spanish Fort. The Commission allocated $1,500 for the monument erected near the site of the original fort. The shaft of Texas red granite rises eight feet above its triple-stepped base. The plaque, designed by Raoul Josset, symbolizes the Taovayas Indian and relates the early history of the region.
