Il ''Forte di Birdoswald'' è stato costruito come un tipico "forte a carte" rettangolare con angoli arrotondati, direttamente incorporato nel bastione sul lato nord. L'angolo nord-est è stato demolito quando è stata costruita la strada moderna, ma il restante muro di cinta con le sei porte

originali, le torri angolari e quelle intermedie è sopravvissuto e sono stati ritrovati resti dei primi edifici in legno. L'edificio della fattoria con la sua torre in stile pseudo-medievale è stato costruito nel 1858 e il muro di cinta del forte è stato scavato come "muro del parco del castello".
