The Abbot’s Cottage, circa 1400. At the suppression of the Monastery of Battle Abbey A.D. 1538 John Hammond, the Abbot retired to this house. Here he lived for eight years until his death when he was buried by his own wish in “The Yle Callyd Saynt Kateryns Yle” in the Parish Church.
